Bali is an island in Indonesia that has become known for its uniqueness and beauty. Past the tourist centers and beaches awaits a tropical paradise full of lush landscapes, rice terraces, old temples, local villages, mountains and lakes. Smaller, less traveled roads lead to places where farmers work hard in their fields and artisans tend to their businesses in family workshops. Shops with woodworkers, silversmiths and painters line main village roads. The Balinese are beautiful and self-confident people who despite strong Indian and European influences have kept their individuality. Balinese culture is rich in arts, performing arts and religious ceremonies. As a daily routine, Hindu devotees visit temples or shrines to pray and bring offerings. Bali is a relatively smaller island but one could spend weeks here and still be amazed how much more is yet to explore.
